First, Second and Third Years: the acquisition of skills and methodologies

The Project
The first three semesters are devoted to discovery, learning through exercises, and the acquisition of fundamentals.

- In interior design, successive exercises relate space to a series of variables: the body, matter, light, structure, mobility, use.
- Design studies begin with the sensorial exploration of the substances of our environment: the making of surfaces and textures, sensory supports and generators of space, and the production of forms through gestures.

The three following semesters initiate students to the project process, with the collaboration of exterior partners.

- In interior design, study ranges from analysis of the environment – site and requirements – to the integration of technical parameters: materials, execution, ergonomics, regulations, etc. Examples of subjects: habitat (a loft conversion), commerce (an Yves Saint Laurent boutique), public amenity (a motorway service area).
- In design, the subjects cover different scales and uses and involve multiple methodological input implicating technological and sensory analysis, cultural reflection and communication.
Examples: a dish drainer, a ball point pen, a heater, exploration of a material.

Experimentation
Diverse angles of approach and context are explored in colour, form, morphostructure, light workshops, and during the third-year workshops and study trip. The creative potential of various software packages are also explored.

Project skills
Training is progressive and often accompanies the biannual themes of the project workshops.

- the various approaches to drawing (observation, life model, sketch, etc.) lead to the elaboration of a more personal language.
- Technical skills are acquired through the practical study of structural constraints, the characteristics of materials, the production process and specific software, accompanied by theoretical courses in construction and technology.
- The codes of descriptive geometry and perspective alternate with formal representation and visual communication.
- The history courses provide an overall chronological framework then explore thematic questions in architecture and design. A writing workshop teaches the formulation of arguments and analysis.
